Lauren's & My Anglophile Marathon

When Lauren & I get togther, it's usually really expensive. Our activities of choice are usually gambling and shopping, sometimes in the same day.

This time we decided to save a few pennies and stay in. Lauren is a bit of an Anglophile (self-proclaimed), so we decided to have a day of movies that pertain to or take place in or around England.

Of course, I made themed food. Sort of.

First was cucumber sandwiches. You have them at "tea," right?

I realize guacamole is not English. But it's delicious.

We did have "biscuits!" And... again... I realize these are not the "English" biscuits. But they're still delicious.

We got our selection of movie options and chose a few. We started with Eurotrip, then moved on to The Holiday & ended the series with Bridget Jones' Diary. All fantastic choices, I feel. But all of the movies below are movie choices that relate to or take place in or around England. This is how many I have in my collection. It's funny the "themes" you find when you peruse your entertainment selections.

After a couple of movies, we decided to make popcorn. Trevor usually makes the popcorn in our house, so I'm not very good at it... I popped a few too many kernels. The bowl got a little full. Popcorn is also non-English. But it's still delicious!

Excellent activity choice... will repeat again since there are too many movie choices to fill just one day.

DC Trip Part 3--Potomac Point Winery

You may remember Harry Potter and the Potomac Point Winery, Part 1. Now presenting Harry Potter and the Potomac Point Winery, Part 2!

Saturday, our bike ride took a bit longer than we thought it would, so we were late for the planned showing of Harry Potter & it was sold out, so we decided to head straight to the later-planned winery for dinner and wine tasting.

Last time we visited, it was in November, so it was dark & we couldn't see the scenery. This time it was still sunny! The vineyard is beautiful!

And this is their function room. So beautiful!

We tasted all of their wines!

And then it was finally time for dinner! The food from this bistro is incredible. You can order anything off the menu without even looking & you know it will be fantastic.

The first course was baked piquillo peppers stuffed with manchego cheese and “Surryano” ham and finished with sherry vinegar syrup and olive oil. YUM

For my entree, I had  a Panini made of mediterranean pulled pork braised in Abbinato, herbs, and tomatoes with agro dulce onions and melted fontina cheese. Unfortunately, they were out of their Abbinato wine, which was my favorite.

Sometimes life necessitates decisions. Sometimes life necessitates indecision. That day at the winery, indecision prevailed. We got both the red and the white wine cheese plates. And dessert.

And then it was over.

Another successful trip to Potomac Point. Here's to many more annual adventures!

Wegman's is worth a 2nd (or 3rd) post.

A little while ago (too long ago to admit), Katie and I visited our friend Sarah in Virginia. The next few posts will be about that trip, but I thought another post about Wegman's was totally appropriate. This was Katie's first Wegman's experience. It was fully appreciated.

I had all my favorites from the buffet.

This Wegman's actually sold black truffles. Have you ever seen black truffles in a store? Check out the price...

Alllllllll the cheeses. We bought goat brie. Goat brie! It was pretty awesome.

Wegman's also has a full wine store.

And the best part... an entire freezer section devoted to pierogi!

Stay tuned for Part 2 of DC trip!

Peaches Cafe

A few months ago, I spent an afternoon with my dear friend Vicki and Stuyvesant Plaza in Albany. We painted some pottery (I'll blog about that later) and we went to lunch at Peaches Cafe.

Who doesn't love a restaurant that features *this* as soon as you walk in!?

It was such a cute little place!

Vicki and I both decided on breakfast for lunch. I had an omlette with tomatoes, mozarella and basil. You can never go wrong with that combination.

And then we had to part ways. More pottery painting and lunching in the future though! We love both!
